Gentec-EO receives the platinum-level prize at the 2024 Innovator Awards for its new QE195 energy detector

Gentec Electro-Optics received the platinum-level prize at the 2024 Innovator Awards by the Laser Focus World magazine for our QE195LP-S-MB-QED-D0 energy meter for large beams up to 700 J. The official announcement can be found here.
This is their highest recognition level within the growing photonics and optics market.

The development of the QE195LP-S-MB-QED-D0 at Gentec-EO was led by Cedric Garceau, project manager, who explains: "There is a rising need for measurement instruments to characterize high-energy laser pulses of large laser beams. It used to be that laser calorimeters were the go-to instruments for these measurements, but given that researchers are continuously pushing the boundaries of known science and are increasing the repetition rate of high-energy lasers, single-shot measurements are not always suitable anymore. This is where the QE195LP-S-MB-QED-D0 comes in handy in the current market."
With its 195 mm aperture and capability to withstand up to 700 J per pulse, this measurement instrument helps scientists push the boundaries of high-energy laser science and advance the development of green energy sources such as laser-based nuclear fusion.
Yet another recognition
This is not the first time Gentec-EO's products are recognized for their innovation in the laser industry. In 2022, the IS50A-1KW-RSi-INT-D0 water-cooled integrating sphere detector for laser power measurement up to 1000 W received an award at the Innovator Awards. A year later, the same product won the William Steen Award which is awarded by the Laser Institute of America. In 2021, the UP-QED series laser power detectors received a Gold-level honoree at the Laser Focus World Innovator Awards. In 2020, the HP-BLU series of wireless high-power detectors was also recognized by the Innovator Awards' judge panel.
